In the UK, the number of infections with highly infectious scabies is increasing, skin bugs are becoming resistant to drugs. This was reported on March 22 by The Daily Mail, citing data from the British Association of Dermatologists.

It is noted that in recent months, the number of cases of scabies has increased dramatically in the kingdom. However, conventional treatment has stopped helping in many cases, which has created additional opportunities for the spread of the disease.

"Three out of a thousand Britons — about 200,000 patients — are infected. This figure is higher among 10-19-year—olds and the elderly," the article says.

According to the publication, scabies spreads through close skin contact with other people, so it often affects entire families, as well as residents of nursing homes. In addition, parasites can live in sheets and towels. Symptoms of the disease appear three to six weeks after infection.

It is clarified that recently there has been more and more evidence that the infection has developed resistance to drugs known to doctors, which makes them practically useless.

Earlier, on March 12, the Rospotrebnadzor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory reported that 123 people had scabies in the region. It was noted that scabies was mainly diagnosed in the adult population (88 people). Almost 85% of cases are in the cities of the region. Residents of Krasnoyarsk, Kansk, Nazarovo, Yeniseisk, Lesosibirsk, Uzhursky district and Taimyr municipal district were most often ill.
