Vladimir Persov, one of Lenfilm's oldest sound engineers, has died at the age of 79.

Honored Artist of Russia and three times winner of the Nika Award, sound engineer of the Lenfilm film studio Vladimir Persov died at the age of 80. This was reported on March 22 in the press service of Lenfilm with reference to his family.

"One of the oldest sound engineers of the Lenfilm film studio died last night. <...> Vladimir Markovich has been working at the film studio since 1969. He went through all the steps of the profession. Lenfilm is grieving with its family and friends. We will inform you about the time and place of the farewell separately," the message says.

Persov began his career at a film studio as a mechanic for sound equipment maintenance, after which he was an assistant sound engineer. His first independent work as a sound engineer was the film "Rivals" (1985) directed by Viktor Sadovsky. In 1986, he began collaborating with Alexander Sokurov and produced Sokurov's paintings Moloch and Taurus.

Until his death, Persov continued to work in cinema, taught at the St. Petersburg Institute of Film and Television at the Department of Sound Engineering. His filmography includes such film projects as "Lefty", "Days of the Eclipse", "The Lonely Voice of Man", "Mother and Son", "Knights of Heaven", "Save and Preserve", "Austrian Field", "Chained", "Sergei Eisenstein. Mexican Fantasy", "Dark Night" and others.
