Representatives of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas have stated that they are not interested in governing the Gaza Strip, but intend to seek a "national consensus." This was reported on March 22 by Al Jazeera TV channel.

"We have no ambitions to govern Gaza — our priority is national consensus, and we are committed to its results," Hamas said in a statement.

They also added that the movement had agreed to establish a public support committee in the enclave.

On March 14, Stephen Witkoff, the US president's special Envoy for the Middle East, proposed a plan to extend the ceasefire in Gaza until April, for the periods of Ramadan and Passover. Hamas, in turn, indicated its willingness to consider it.

On March 18, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the resumption of military operations against Hamas in Gaza. As a result of the Israeli airstrikes, more than 1,000 people were injured, and the death toll increased to 310. The media also said that Israel had warned the administration of US President Donald Trump in advance about the resumption of attacks on Gaza.
