Ovechkin called Putin's idea of a KHL-NHL match a wise decision

The initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump to hold matches between players of the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) is a wise decision by the two leaders. "This is the decision of two wise leaders who have begun to build and restore relations between the two great powers," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to the athlete, this event will be significant for hockey fans from both countries. He recalled that both Russia and the United States are proud of legendary world-famous players.
The hockey player also noted that this initiative is the first step towards lifting unfair restrictions for athletes from all countries.
"And if everything works out, I'd love to get on the ice too," Ovechkin summed up.
Trump supported Putin's idea to hold hockey matches in both countries between Russian and American players playing in the KHL and NHL during a telephone conversation that took place on March 18.
