Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to a signal from American leader Donald Trump about his desire to restore relations. Stephen Witkoff, the US President's special envoy for the Middle East, said this in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson on March 21.

"Trump sent a signal to President Putin that he wants to resume relations with him and that they will be two great leaders who will sort out this conflict. That was the message," a recording of Witkoff's interview was published on the X network (ex. Twitter) of a journalist.

Trump's special envoy also noted that, having received this offer, Putin "sent signals" that this is the path he also wants to follow.

On the same day, Witkoff announced a possible meeting between Trump and Putin in the coming months. He noted that Trump had excellent relations with Putin during his first term.

On the evening of March 18, the Russian leader and his American counterpart, Donald Trump, had a telephone conversation. During the conversation, they exchanged views on the Ukrainian conflict, and also discussed a wide range of areas in which the United States and Russia could establish cooperation.
