The Mediterranean type of diet can help slow down the development of dementia and help patients with cognitive impairments. On March 22, a therapist, nutritionist, and expert of the social project "Dementia.net" by Elvira Fesenko in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».

"There are no clear protocols and dietary recommendations for patients with dementia. The Mediterranean type of diet is optimal for patients with dementia. Vegetables, herbs, vegetable oil, fish and whole grains support cognitive functions," she said.

Also, to combat the disease, it is worth considering including yogurt or sauerkraut in your diet. Fermented foods will help maintain the gut microbiota, which will also have an impact on brain function.

"We eliminate excess salt and sugar, and control key blood parameters: in dyslipidemia, the level of "bad" cholesterol, in anemia— ferritin and vitamin B12. Special attention is paid to the protein component. Protein deficiency worsens motor disorders and causes weakness," the specialist advised.

She also called for eating fish, lean meat and fermented dairy products.

On March 18, nutritionist Bobrovsky spoke about the benefits of eggs for brain function. The expert noted that eggs contain essential amino acids, as well as a whole range of vitamins A, B, and E.
