- Fico has called an emergency government meeting due to the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Slovakia

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called an emergency government meeting on March 22 due to an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the southern regions of the republics.
"Given the seriousness of the information presented today at the cabinet meeting by the Minister of Agriculture and the chief veterinarian about the spread of foot—and-mouth disease among animals, I am convening an extraordinary cabinet meeting tomorrow," he wrote on Facebook (owned by Meta, a company recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).
The Prime minister specified that the meeting would discuss the effectiveness of measures already taken by the government, interaction between departments on the issue of combating foot-and-mouth disease, as well as cooperation with international organizations.
Fico also called on the Slovak opposition to abandon alarmist statements and not to use the situation with the disease for their political purposes.
In January, the first outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease since 1988 occurred in Germany. Because of it, more than 10 countries have banned the supply of animals from Germany, and the Rosselkhoznadzor has banned the import of all livestock products from the European Union into the Russian Federation.
