Unreal Engine 4 was first launched on the domestic Aurora OS

The Unreal Engine 4 game engine from Epic Games was first launched on the domestic Aurora operating system (OS). This was reported to Izvestia on March 21 in the system development department.
This is an initiative of the Aurora engineer community, which is actively growing. In the process of development, there are many initiatives from libraries to porting games.
"These successes indicate Aurora's popularity both in the market and among tech enthusiasts and academia. The availability of Aurora OS devices for purchase by individuals, not just companies and corporations, played a role in this. For our part, we welcome the expansion of the Aurora OS ecosystem and the use of our software. Our team will continue to invest in development tools in order to create more products and projects that support our OS," said Roman Alyautdin, Director of the Aurora OS Development Department.
The source code of Unreal Engine 4 was obtained by Alexander Navrotsky, a student of the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI), as part of his academic research for his master's thesis. He was able to adapt it to the Aurora 5 OS using the Aurora SDK. According to him, currently only the first stage of porting has been implemented, the purpose of which is to demonstrate the solvability of the problem.
"In the future, it is planned to improve the performance of some textures, add the functionality of adapting the game engine to screen rotation, as well as meet the security requirements of the Aurora OS for applications. It is also planned to compare the performance of the resulting adaptation of the engine with a similar one on Android OS. The long—term plans are to use Vulkan technology instead of OpenGL ES and switch to UE5," Navrotsky said.
In April, an adaptation of the Gobot 4 engine, popular among casual developers, is being developed and distributed under the free MIT license. It is noted that developers can easily transfer their games to Aurora 5 and immediately post them to the national RuStore app store for the OS.
On January 29, Izvestia got acquainted with the results of a study of the YUKASSA online and offline payment acceptance service (owned by HUMOPEU) and the Check Index analytical center of the OFD Platform, according to which, by the end of 2024, the turnover of the gaming segment in the Russian Federation increased by 20% compared to 2023. It was clarified that sales of computer components increased, while prices for most components decreased or increased slightly.
