The International Football Federation (FIFA) has suspended the Mexican club Leon from participating in the World Club Championship. The decision of the appeal committee was published on March 21 on the organization's website.

The reason is that Leon is owned by a company that also manages another Mexican club, Pachuca, which is already participating in the tournament.

"Leon will be suspended from participating in the competition, and the club admitted as a replacement will be announced in due course," the press service of the sports federation said.

Leon is an eight-time champion of Mexico, a five-time winner of the national cup and the super Cup of the country.

The World Club Championship will be held in the USA from June 15 to July 13, 2025, adds "Газета.Ru ".

On March 5, FIFA announced the amount of the prize fund for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which amounted to $1 billion. At the same time, it was noted that the creation of a reliable financial system for the development of football around the world became the central theme of the organization's council, which unanimously approved a revised budget revenue target of $13 billion for the 2023-2026 cycle.
