Orban stated the risk of economic collapse of the EU upon Ukraine's accession

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has warned that Ukraine's hasty accession to the European Union (EU) will result in an economic collapse for the community. He voiced this opinion on March 21 on the Kossuth radio station, summing up the results of the EU summit in Brussels.
Orban noted that most of the summit participants supported Ukraine's accession to the EU, but sooner or later everyone will realize that this will lead to economic difficulties. He stressed that the accession process would involve high costs to support Ukraine, as the EU currently does not have such funds.
In addition, Orban expressed doubt about the expediency of new loans proposed by the European Commission to finance Ukraine, since the EU in the coming years will have to pay huge interest on old loans taken out to stimulate the economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The repayment of a huge loan taken earlier is on the threshold. In 2027-2028, interest and principal will be paid. Calculations show that this will take 20% of the EU budget," the politician said.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on March 10 that the Hungarian government still considers Ukraine's accession to the EU dangerous, but is ready to represent any position of its citizens on this issue in the international arena.
