- The United States has agreed to an exception from sanctions for Hungary to pay for gas from Russia

The United States has agreed to make an exception to the sanctions for Hungary regarding the payment of Russian gas supplies. This was announced by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto at a press conference on March 21.
"Yesterday we received information from Washington that our request to be exempted from these sanctions was granted," he said.
Szijjarto stressed that this decision is important for ensuring Hungary's energy security.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister also noted that guarantees for Ukraine should be considered after signing agreements and negotiating processes to resolve the situation.
"Everything should be done in stages," the minister concluded.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that the Nord Stream 2 (SP–2) gas pipeline could be placed under U.S. control so that Germany could receive gas from Russia through it. It is noted that in order to implement this option, anti-Russian sanctions should be lifted not only by the American side, but also by the European side.
