Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called People's Artist of Russia Bedros Kirkorov a unique person on March 21.
"He really was a unique person, so I consider it my duty to say goodbye to him," he said at the funeral of the artist.
Peskov noted that Kirkorov went through the entire Great Patriotic War. He also called the musician a man of art and added that he supported talented young people in their creative work.
In particular, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation stressed that the artist was among those who defended the monument to the soldier-liberator of the USSR army "Alyosha" in Bulgaria and raised the public so that the monument would not be demolished.
Kirkorov's funeral takes place at the Troekurovsky cemetery. Prior to that, a private funeral service was held in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
The death of the singer was announced on March 18 by his son Philip Kirkorov. He died of cardiac arrest.
Bedros Kirkorov was born on March 2, 1932 in the city of Varna in Bulgaria. By the age of 17, he graduated from a vocational school with a degree in fashion shoemaker, and then from a music institution.
In the last years of his life, the artist was actively engaged in charitable activities.
