Doctors talked about the causes of the spring blues and the fight against it.

Depression and fatigue are common phenomena in the spring period, it is a natural reaction of the body to the change of season caused by lack of sunlight, insufficient physical activity and vitamin deficiency. Olga Chistik, a therapist at the Scandinavian Health Center, and Dmitry Gurov, a pharmacist and head of the SBER EAPTEK pharmacy, told Izvestia about the causes of the melancholy after the winter on March 22.
The doctor said that basically this condition is typical for people over the age of 25 with the onset of the spring season. At the same time, the older a person is, the easier it is for them to adapt to the exhaustion of the body after winter.
According to her, people with chronic diseases may also be at risk. In spring, as well as in autumn, they can worsen. Therefore, it is necessary to undergo examinations and deal with their prevention, the expert noted. In addition, it is important to check the thyroid gland, disorders in the work of this organ can lead to fatigue and irritability, the specialist added.
There is also a psychiatric condition called spring depression, Chistik said.
"It is a mental disorder in which mood decreases, interest in communication and active activity disappears, anxiety and motor inhibition arise. The causes may be endogenous or physiological. The disorder develops due to a malfunction of the biological clock or a lack of nutrients," the specialist said.
Gurov noted that it is also important to avoid deficiencies of substances important for the body in the spring period. Vitamin D affects the production of serotonin and other neurotransmitters that affect mood, energy, and motivation. Its deficiency can cause chronic fatigue and sleep disorders. B vitamins, in turn, play a key role in metabolism, energy production, and the functioning of the nervous system; their deficiency can also cause fatigue and weakness, irritability, and mood swings.
"Finally, magnesium deficiency — magnesium is involved in the regulation of the nervous system and energy production. Its deficiency can be manifested by the same fatigue and weakness, anxiety and irritability. Magnesium also plays an important role in managing stress and sleep disorders," the expert said.
He advised sleeping at least eight hours a day, going to bed no later than 22:00, and putting all gadgets away an hour before bedtime. In addition, a varied diet will help, as well as physical activity — outdoor walks and sports. Gurov recommended practicing your favorite hobbies, spending time with family and friends, and trying to surround yourself with "positivity."
In his opinion, in order to prevent deficiencies and health problems in the spring, it is necessary to take tests for the levels of vitamin D, B12, folic acid, thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2) and pyridoxine (B6).
If there are identified deficiencies of vitamins and minerals, Chistik concluded, it is possible to carry out drug correction of these conditions.
On March 21, experts from the company "Hemotest" and the Savings Bank told about the dangers of spring pollinosis. According to them, serious complications include anaphylaxis and bronchial asthma. In addition, they warned of the need to be careful when taking supplements with bioflavonides, beneficial antioxidant substances of plant origin, also known as "vitamin P", during the period of exacerbation of allergy symptoms: in some cases, they can exacerbate allergic reactions.
