The expert gave advice to Russians who decided to issue a bank card to a child

Parents should analyze their child's expenses and even income together with their child, and link the analysis to the goals they would like to achieve, Elman Mehdiyev, the founder of the Kredchek service, told Izvestia on March 22. He also mentioned the risk of issuing a bank card for a teenager.
"If there is a desire to give a teenager independence in financial management, it is worth giving it step by step, increasing its "measure": from small amounts to large ones, from small expenses to large ones, from simple payment instruments to complex ones. And do not forget to analyze his expenses and even income together with the teenager, and link the analysis with the goals that he would like to achieve (scooter, mobile phone, etc.)," he said.
Some parents issue bank cards for their children. The expert clarified that the bank that issued the first payment card in a person's life has a better chance of becoming the "bank of choice" for many years without having to spend a huge marketing budget to attract. And when such a client becomes an adult, the credit institution can offer him a credit card or an overdraft to the same payment card that the teenager is already used to.
Mehdiyev added that a payment card is a convenient tool for controlling expenses if expenses should not exceed a certain amount that parents allocate to a teenager for daily or pocket expenses.
"The only question is how much the parents themselves keep records of their expenses and incomes, and how often they are interested in where their beloved child's turnovers come from on the map. Since, unfortunately, the number of teenagers involved in fraudsters' transit operations has been growing recently, and the temptation of "easy" earnings from dropper operations is not so easy to avoid, the Bank of Russia has decided on the obligation of banks to notify parents about transactions on their children's cards. This is the biggest risk of uncontrolled use of payment instruments by teenagers," he stressed.
Earlier, on January 26, it was reported that among the Russians surveyed, 47% of respondents allow their children to work from the age of 14.
