Kidney diseases can manifest themselves in atypical symptoms, including dizziness, impaired coordination, and sleep problems. Alexey Kovalenko, a urologist at the European Medical Center, told Izvestia on March 22.

"Patients with kidney disease may have trouble sleeping, fatigue, and weakness. A decrease in libido can also be attributed to the manifestations of kidney disease," the expert noted.

One of the possible signs of kidney disease, according to the doctor, may be dizziness and impaired coordination. He also attributed them to decreased attention and cognitive abilities and anemia.

"Another sign of kidney disease may be itchy skin, dryness, and decreased skin elasticity. If the excretory function of the kidneys is impaired, the balance of minerals and nutrients in the body, in particular protein, may be disrupted. Another non-obvious symptom is a metallic taste in the mouth and bad breath, especially in the morning. This happens due to a violation of the acid-base balance," Kovalenko added.

The doctor also said that excess fluid in the tissues, which occurs due to impaired excretory function of the kidneys, can lead to shortness of breath. And the reduced filtration capacity of the kidneys and the subsequent intoxication of the body leads to nausea or vomiting.

"Another possible symptom is that even if a person feels chills in a warm room, they are worried about an unreasonable increase in temperature, weakness and dizziness," the expert added.

These symptoms, Kovalenko noted, develop due to various processes associated with impaired kidney function, for example, due to impaired blood supply, stone formation, tumors, urinary tract obstruction, and inflammatory diseases.

However, it is not necessary that all of these symptoms may occur if a person has kidney problems, the expert stressed.

According to the doctor, the risk group for kidney disease includes people with diabetes, hypertension, and hereditary predisposition, in particular, polycystic kidney disease.

"Obesity also plays a negative role in the development of kidney disease, which increases the risk of hypertension and diabetes," the urologist emphasized.

The elderly and smokers are also at risk.

"Other risk factors include excessive consumption of salt, fats, and processed foods, a sedentary lifestyle, prolonged use of certain medications, and exposure to toxins," Kovalenko added.

The expert stressed that if a person suspects kidney disease, they should immediately consult a general practitioner, nephrologist or urologist. At the same time, relief of symptoms, for example, with painkillers is not effective, since it does not solve the essence of the problem.

Earlier, on March 21, Tatyana Bobrova, a general practitioner and expert at the Hemotest laboratory, told Izvestia that in the spring, some people have gastrointestinal tract diseases such as gastritis, cholecystitis, stomach and duodenal ulcers. This is due to the cyclical nature of the diseases themselves, changes in the length of the day, diet, as well as internal factors, primarily vitamin and mineral deficiencies after winter.
