Fetisov commented on Ovechkin's approach to Gretzky's record

The most important record of the Russian forward of the Washington Capitals hockey club Alexander Ovechkin is still ahead, and the results that he can achieve in the near future will not be surpassed by anyone in the next 100 years. This opinion was shared with Izvestia by State Duma deputy, two-time Olympic champion Vyacheslav Fetisov.
On March 21, Ovechkin scored the 888th goal of his career, set an NHL record for the number of seasons with 35 or more goals and reduced the gap from forward Wayne Gretzky's record to six goals.
"No one thought it was possible to even get close [to Gretzky's record], but he did it, and he's even one step away from breaking that record. <...> Sasha will get there, and I think it will be the coolest record that no one will break for sure in the next 100 years," Fetisov said.
The deputy stressed that Ovechkin is an outstanding athlete and a unique hockey player, and expressed hope that he will be able to win new victories before the end of the current season.
Ovechkin told Izvestia and Sport-Express on March 11 that he was not going to renew his contract with the American club and was considering returning to Dynamo Moscow. At the same time, Ovechkin noted that it is difficult to make plans for such a long time.
