The growth rate of sales of Russian wines in the HOREK segment — in the hotel and restaurant business - in 2024 became higher than in retail trade. This follows from the data of Roskachestvo, which was reviewed by Izvestia on March 22. Experts analyzed the results of restaurants and cafes in preparation for the next stage of the "Days of Russian Wines" campaign.

Thus, the total sales of quiet and sparkling wines of domestic production amounted to about 22.5 million bottles, an increase of more than 21% compared to the level of 2023.

According to experts, about 35 million liters of wine were sold in the Russian catering industry last year. Of these, domestic products accounted for about 48% in physical terms (about 17 million liters). In particular, 6.7 million liters of sparkling wines were sold in cafes and restaurants, and for the first time more than 10.2 million liters of still wine produced in the Russian Federation.

"Last year showed impressive growth rates in sales of Russian wines in Khoreka. Sparkling wines grew best. Sales increased by 27% compared to 2023. Still wines also showed high dynamics, adding about 19% in liters. It is worth noting that even retail trade does not show such rates, where we also note an increase in sales of domestic wines at the level of 13-15% last year," said Olesya Latysheva, head of the Russian Wine Research and Promotion Department at Roskachestvo.

According to Roskachestvo estimates, the main factors that influenced the growth of wine sales were a more competitive price compared to imported wines, while at the same time increasing the quality of Russian wines of those categories that are interesting to restaurants. In addition, the intensification of domestic product promotion programs is affecting. The segment is also influenced by the development of domestic tourism.

Latysheva noted that experts are analyzing the situation in a number of clusters of active development of domestic tourism.

"These are not only the southern regions, where the development of consumer loyalty to domestic winemaking is influenced by guided tours and tastings of the wineries themselves. A huge flow of tourists is now coming to the cities of the Golden Ring, Karelia, the Kaliningrad region, Altai, and so on. Russian restaurateurs are also moving in these directions, opening new FERRET facilities and working with local products. And, of course, Russian wines have the best place on the maps of these establishments," she stressed.

Earlier, on February 25, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation informed Izvestia that in January 2025, the volume of production of still and sparkling wines in Russia increased by 18% compared to the same period in 2024. The ministry added that vineyard areas are growing annually in the country, the culture of winemaking and the quality of products are improving.
