A Georgian citizen was sentenced in absentia to 23 years for training Ukrainian Armed Forces mercenaries

Georgian citizen Mikhail Kamkhadze was found guilty in absentia of training mercenaries and participating in hostilities on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and sentenced to 23 years in prison. This was reported on March 21 by the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation.

The investigation revealed that in 2017, the accused arrived in Ukraine and joined a paramilitary group. After completing military training, he took part in military operations against representatives of the law enforcement agencies of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics and Russian military personnel for financial remuneration. He also trained mercenaries and other representatives of the Ukrainian armed forces.

The DPR court found him guilty of committing crimes under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict") and Part 1 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Training of a mercenary, as well as his use in an armed conflict").

"Kamkhadze's court sentenced him in absentia to 23 years in prison. He has been put on the international wanted list," the department's Telegram channel reported.

Earlier, on March 12, a court sentenced Levan Beruashvili, a Georgian mercenary of the Armed Forces of Georgia, to 24 years in prison in absentia for a terrorist attack in the Kursk region and mercenary activities. According to the investigation, the defendant committed crimes against civilians on the territory of the Kursk region as part of Ukrainian formations.
