The authority of the head of the European Union (EU) diplomacy, former Estonian Prime Minister Kai Kallas, was dealt a blow because of her plan to provide assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 40 billion euros. This was reported by Politico on March 20, citing sources.

"Chief European diplomat Kaya Kallas had high hopes that she would be able to mobilize up to €40 billion in military aid to strengthen Ukraine's position on the battlefield and strengthen it in the upcoming negotiations with Russia," the publication says.

According to the publication, before submitting her plan and appealing to the member states of the community to allocate additional funds, Callas did not conduct the necessary consultations.

One of the sources stressed that Callas continues to act as the head of the government of one country, not realizing that she now has a different role.

On March 14, Euractiv announced that the European Union (EU) intends to create a voluntary fund for military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of €20-40 billion to circumvent Hungary's veto. It was specified that each country would contribute to the fund depending on its "economic weight." At the same time, the EU will consider as its contribution €1.9 billion of profits from frozen Russian assets.
