The head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, as Permanent Chairman of the Russian Federation at the United Nations (UN), was remembered for his charisma, special attractiveness and an incorrigible passion for smoking. This was reported on Friday, March 21, by French journalist Celia de Lavaren.

March 21 marks the 75th anniversary of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry. Lavrov was Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations from 1994 to 2004.

"One morning, one of my friends told me that there was going to be a soccer game at the United Nations. We weren't interested in the game, but when she said that Lavrov would be there, we knew we had to go! We were like cheerleaders, we were clapping! We didn't care about football at all, we came to cheer for Lavrov! We shouted "go ahead, Sergey," she shared her memories in an interview with RIA Novosti.

De Lavaren noted that the girls were willing to do anything to sit in the front row during Lavrov's press conferences.

In addition, she added that the former permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations did not change his passion for smoking even when the organization launched an anti-smoking campaign.

According to the French journalist, Lavrov gave the impression of a man with a unique charisma.

"There was something about him, some charisma that not everyone had," she concluded.

Famous Russian cultural, sports, and scientific figures congratulated Lavrov on his 75th birthday by reading his famous poem "The Embassy Order." The diplomat began writing poetry while still a student. In 2004, his works were included in a poetry collection published to mark the 60th anniversary of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO).

Lavrov has been the head of Russian diplomacy since March 2004 and since then has been constantly leading or, as journalists like to say, patronizing Russian diplomacy. The only person who held this position longer than him was Andrei Gromyko (in 1957-1985 - 28 years), who was responsible for both the Caribbean crisis and the first disarmament treaties. Under him, the current Russian Foreign Minister began his diplomatic career as an attache at the USSR Embassy in Sri Lanka.
