- Vershinin spoke about the connection between the victory of the USSR in World War II and the creation of the United Nations

As the power that made the most significant contribution to the Great Victory, the Soviet Union played a decisive role in the establishment and formation of the United Nations in 1945, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin recalled in an interview with Izvestia.
"It is important to mention that the UN anniversary is inextricably intertwined with another milestone of universal significance — the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II. It was the heroic feat of millions of soldiers and ordinary citizens of the USSR, as well as other states of the anti—Hitler coalition, that paved the way for the birth of the organization," the diplomat said.
Thus, it was on the basis of Soviet proposals that the organization's functioning modalities were approved.
"On June 26, 1945, during a conference in San Francisco, the then Soviet Ambassador to the United States, Andrei Gromyko, signed the UN Charter, as a result of which the Soviet Union became one of its founders," he concluded.
