- FT has learned about the US plans to take control of a nuclear power plant for the extraction of rare earths

The United States intends to take control of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in order to develop deposits of rare earth metals in Ukraine. This was reported on Thursday, March 20, by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper, citing sources.
"According to two senior Ukrainian officials involved in drafting the agreement with Washington on rare earths and other raw materials, the administration of [US President Donald] Trump Trump may try to use the plant to extract rare and critically important minerals that Ukraine possesses," the publication says.
Earlier in the day, Trump actually handed over control of Ukrainian nuclear power plants to the United States to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. Thus, he offered the help of the United States in the operation of these stations.
Also on March 20, the American leader announced that the United States would soon sign a mining deal with Ukraine.
