- Bild reported on the need for the Bundeswehr to involve private security companies to protect its facilities

The Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Germany are forced to involve private security companies (PSCs) to protect their facilities due to a shortage of personnel. This was reported by Bild on March 20.
"They march, shoot, and sleep in the open. But when it comes to guarding their own barracks, the Bundeswehr has to resort to private security services," the newspaper said.
It is specified that about 2 thousand PSC employees are involved in the protection of Bundeswehr facilities throughout the country.
"In 2024, it cost taxpayers a whopping €666 million," the article says.
Bild noted that the number of military personnel in the German army has decreased from 250,000 to 180,000 over the past 15 years.
By the end of 2024, the Bundeswehr faced a serious shortage of personnel, significant deterioration of infrastructure such as barracks, and a shortage of combat-ready equipment, German Military Commissioner Eva Hoegl said on March 11. She noted that the army has very serious infrastructure problems, as "the barracks are in disrepair, there is not enough ammunition, spare parts and serviceable heavy military equipment."
