The member states of the European Union (EU) ignore the growing number of states in the bloc that do not share the idea of continuing the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on March 20 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, answering a question from Izvestia.

She clarified that European countries have been trying for several years to agree on the amounts of military assistance to Ukraine. According to her, Moscow is closely monitoring the discussions on this issue.

Zakharova stressed that the Russian side is observing attempts by the current leadership of the European Union and individual member states of the bloc to impose aggressive logic on other states.

"It is surprising that Brussels does not see and tries not to notice that in the EU itself there is a growing number of those who do not share the idea of continuing the open part of the conflict, or even more so the war with Russia, current or hybrid, or as some in the EU have already agreed, an open confrontation with Russia," she said at a briefing..

According to her, the EU countries do not take into account the desire of their citizens to live in peace, tranquility and well-being.

Zakharova stressed that Europe has laid down the tools of a diplomat and taken up aggressive rhetoric. She clarified that Brussels' diplomacy has demonstrated its inability to propose a reasonable strategy for resolving the conflict.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that a year ago, European countries criticized Russia for mentioning nuclear weapons, but now they are publicly raising this issue on their own and do not call it aggressive nuclear rhetoric.

According to Zakharova, the Russian side will analyze, monitor and take appropriate steps, measures and actions.

On March 14, Euractiv announced that the European Union (EU) intends to create a voluntary fund for military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of €20-40 billion to circumvent Hungary's veto. It was specified that each country would contribute to the fund depending on its "economic weight." At the same time, the EU will consider as its contribution €1.9 billion of profits from frozen Russian assets.

La Stampa newspaper reported on March 20 that a number of states rejected the plan of the head of European diplomacy, Kai Kallas, to provide Ukraine with weapons worth € 40 billion. According to the newspaper, the initiative was not supported by Italy, Spain, Portugal and France.
