More than 70% of Russians plan to travel during the May holidays

The May holidays are a great reason to go on a trip. According to a survey from the Orange loyalty service, 70% of respondents plan to leave for another city or country at this time. Izvestia got acquainted with the results of the study on March 23.

In 2025, the cities of Central Russia are leading among Russian destinations: Kazan, Veliky Novgorod, Vladimir, Yaroslavl and Kaliningrad. The traditional resort locations of Sochi, Kislovodsk, and Anapa are also popular. The North Caucasus has become the third most in demand among Russian residents.

Among the most popular foreign destinations were neighboring countries: Abkhazia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey. In addition, Russians are actively planning vacations for the May holidays in Southeast Asia - Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia.

At the same time, Turkey remains the leader in the family vacation segment. Asian countries are more often chosen for travel by companies. The survey shows that 60% want to spend the May holidays with their family, 20% with a partner, and 19% with friends.

Also, according to the study, respondents start planning their route a month before their vacation. At the same time, women tend to plan more carefully and early, while men are more likely to make a decision at the last moment.

When organizing a vacation, most travelers prefer to book tickets and accommodation on their own. More than 20% of the respondents are ready to entrust the preparation to travel agencies, especially when it comes to difficult routes and flights. At the same time, from May 5 to May 7, most people are not going to take extra days off to extend their vacation.

Experts note that many Russians are looking for ways to save money on travel. About 63% of the respondents choose hotels based on promotions and special offers through loyalty services, and 46% of them take into account the possibility of receiving cashback when buying.

On March 20, Izvestia got acquainted with the data of the OneTwoTrip travel planning service. According to them, the number of hotel bookings in Rome in April among Russians increased by 69% compared to the same period last year, St. Petersburg remains the most popular destination in Russia, with the Northern Capital accounting for 19.2%. It also turned out that in 2025, 23% more tourists will go abroad, the total share of foreign orders has reached 54%.
