- The State Duma explained the refusal of the Estonian parliament to support the closure of the border with the Russian Federation

Viktor Vodolatsky, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, explained on Thursday, March 20, why the Estonian Parliament (Riigikogu) did not support the bill on closing the border with Russia.
According to the MP, Estonia is one of the main mouthpieces of Russophobic politics, although the Russians gave them freedom, and in the old days they survived only thanks to Russia.
"They see that today America is starting to tilt towards Russia, and like any country that is not independent, but controlled from the outside, they naturally understand that something will happen tomorrow. Tomorrow, the two powers may form some kind of coalition, and it will be very sad for everyone else," the politician said in an interview with RT.
He added that Russophobic policies will return to countries like Estonia like a boomerang.
"Therefore, naturally, they believe that it is not worth closing the border with Russia now. We have to wait," Vodolatsky concluded.
Earlier in the day, the ERR broadcasting company reported that the Estonian parliament did not support the bill on closing the border with Russia, IA Regnum reports.
14 deputies voted in favor of closing the border with the Russian Federation, while 61 people voted against, according to the website. kp.ru . As a result, the bill was rejected.
Prior to that, on December 29, 2024, Estonian Interior Minister Lauri Leaenemetz expressed the opinion that there was no need to close the borders with the Russian Federation, since this would not solve the security problem. According to him, there is no need to rush to make a decision on the rapid closure of borders in Narva and Southern Estonia, as this may have an impact on local residents.
