Expired cosmetic creams can pose a great danger to health, as the composition of the product changes after the expiration date. Andrey Dorokhov, Associate Professor of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry named after A. N. Reformatsky RTU MIREA, warned about this on Thursday, March 20.

"The creams contain various active ingredients, preservatives and stabilizers that ensure the effectiveness of the product. Over time, these components begin to decompose, which leads to loss of effectiveness and the formation of new, potentially dangerous compounds," the chemist said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

Dorokhov added that bacteria and fungi actively multiply in such products, because preservatives are no longer able to effectively inhibit their growth. For this reason, the use of expired cosmetics can lead to the development of dermatitis, eczema and other inflammatory diseases, the expert warned.

The chemist noted that some cosmetics contain benzoyl peroxide, which is effective against acne, helps to cleanse pores and eliminate age spots due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

"But over time, this substance can decompose to form benzene, a volatile organic compound that is recognized as a carcinogen and contributes to the development of serious diseases, including cancer," Dorokhov explained.

Earlier that day, Alexandra Pashkova, a dermatologist at the Semeynaya clinic network, told Izvestia that with the onset of spring, the skin is facing new challenges: temperature fluctuations, increased solar activity, vitamin deficiency after winter.

She noted the importance of hydration, as after winter, the skin is often dehydrated due to prolonged exposure to low temperatures and dry indoor air.

The day before, dermatologist and cosmetologist Alexander Bykanov told the website kp.ru about popular mistakes in the diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases.

Almost every tenth person in the world suffers from acne. According to the doctor, determining the diagnosis solely through external examination and questioning of the patient is the golden rule of modern dermatology. 360.ru . There is no need to take tests, the doctor assured.
