For this reason, the use of expired cosmetics can lead to the development of dermatitis, eczema and other inflammatory diseases, the expert warned.

The chemist noted that some cosmetics contain benzoyl peroxide, which is effective against acne, helps to cleanse pores and eliminate age spots due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

"But over time, this substance can decompose to form benzene, a volatile organic compound that is recognized as a carcinogen and contributes to the development of serious diseases, including cancer," Dorokhov explained.
