USE and OGE samples — why are they needed and how to use them

At the end of the school year, 9th graders and 11th graders pass the final certification - they take the OGE and the Unified State Exam. The results of these exams affect the further learning process, as they are taken into account when moving to the 10th grade and entering the university. To make students less nervous during the real exam, mock tests are conducted. Read about what they are and why they are needed in the Izvestia article.
What is the USE and OGE test?
The mock Unified State Exam and the OGE is a training exam that takes place in the same format as the real one. Students will need to come at the appointed hour, pass the metal detector, hand over their personal belongings, register, receive control and measuring materials (CMM), fill out forms and complete tasks in the allotted time. For simplicity, students and teachers often refer to such exams as probes.
The samples are needed to test graduates' knowledge and familiarize them with the format of future exams. A clear understanding of the process significantly reduces the stress of schoolchildren, because for them what is happening on the real OGE or USE will not be new. In addition, taking the mock test improves understanding of the task structure and serves as good training in filling out answer forms.
In addition, the probes help you choose the tactics for solving this exam and determine how much time is required for each of the parts. And the test results provide an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of graduate training, which will be useful if a certain number of points are required for admission.
Unlike the real OGE and the Unified State Exam, the probe does not affect the final certification of the graduate in any way. Therefore, even if a student fails the test, it will not affect his certificate, transfer to the 10th grade or admission to university.
Participation in the trial OGE and USE is voluntary, each graduate decides for himself whether it is necessary to take it. The only exception is if the training options are solved in a control format. In this case, you will still have to visit it.
Where do the OGE and USE tests take place?
You can write a mock exam at different sites. Most often, such tests are conducted in schools. Rooms are allocated for students, real KIMs are distributed to them, and an observer is present in the audience while working on assignments.
Private training centers that prepare for the OGE and the Unified State Exam also organize training exams. The conditions of their holding depend on the rules of a particular institution. Some completely recreate the atmosphere of the exam, others suggest simply solving the option in a certain amount of time. Sometimes the samples are conducted in an online format. Unlike schools, training centers can charge a fee for passing a trial exam, but they more often hold such events.
In large cities, universities are also engaged in conducting trial OGE and USE. Testing is carried out both for students of preparatory courses and for school graduates.
There is no significant difference between the face-to-face tests conducted in schools, universities and training centers. Usually, organizers strive to bring the testing conditions as close as possible to the actual exam due to their capabilities and resources.
How to prepare for the OGE and USE exam
You should prepare for the trial OGE and the Unified State Exam in the same way as for the real exam, because they are identical in format and content. A few weeks before the test, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the codifier on the required subject on the FIPI website and make a list of topics to repeat. It is recommended to distribute the material evenly over the entire preparation period so as not to overwork.
It is better to discuss especially difficult issues that you cannot figure out on your own with a teacher at school or with a tutor. If this is not possible, you can use the methodological materials or refer to the video selections of specific tasks. However, it is important to take a critical approach to assessing the sources of information and the competence of the leading various channels, so as not to encounter false information.
When preparing, it is also important to follow a daily routine: sleep at least eight hours a day, eat regularly, set aside time for rest, sports or hobbies. Immediately before the test, it is recommended to give priority not to repeating the material, but to psychological adjustment for the upcoming test. It is advisable to devote the day before the trial exam entirely to activities unrelated to the exam. This will help to "put" the information in your head.
What to do after the USE and OGE test
The scores of the trial Unified State Exam and the OGE do not affect the final certification of the graduate or the assessment on this exam. Therefore, in case of failure, you should not get upset, because the result can still be improved.
The first thing to do after the probe is to work on the errors. A practice exam is a great way to identify weaknesses in preparation, whether it's inaccuracies in completing a certain type of assignment or gaps in theoretical knowledge. Based on the results obtained, it is possible to compile a list of priority topics for study that should be upgraded to the current OGE or USE.
If self-study has proved ineffective, it will be useful to take a few lessons with a tutor. A specialist will help you understand complex topics and provide training recommendations.
Sometimes the reason for poor results lies not in a lack of knowledge, but in excitement, misunderstanding of the requirements for completing tasks or completing forms. In this case, you can sign up for another test to give yourself the opportunity to get used to the procedure, tight time limits and other exam features.
