In the Republic of North Ossetia, Razdolnoye village, an Eternal Flame was lit for the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The solemn ceremony "Keeping the Victory Flame Alive" was held on March 20.

"During the Great Patriotic War, Razdolnoye village found itself in the area of the Mozdok-Malgobek defensive operation during the Battle for the Caucasus. The Soviet army repelled the attacks of the German troops, preventing them from breaking into the oil regions. Fierce fighting was taking place under the walls of Mozdok and in the direction of Razdolnoye," the presenter said.

As noted by Artur Taymazov, a member of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, the project "Keeping the Victory Flame" is being implemented on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin and with the support of the United Russia Party.

"This eternal flame symbolizes the courage of all our soldiers who defended our entire country at the cost of their lives. This is a great story that our younger ones should remember. These are great feats of our elders," Taymazov emphasized.

The event was also attended by the head of the republic Sergey Menyailo, heads of regional enterprises of Gazprom and Mozdoksky district. The right to light the fire was granted to Taimazov, an honorary resident of Razdolny, a former teacher, a representative of the volunteer movement "Be Kind" Vera Rasputnya, and unarmee Oleg Digurko.

After the solemn lighting of the Eternal Flame, the honored guests of the event and the residents of Razdolny laid flowers to it.

In 2025, May 9 marks the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War. In January 1945, the Soviet army launched an offensive against Berlin. As a result of the fighting, at 0:43 Moscow time on May 9, the commanders-in-chief signed the act of unconditional surrender of Germany, which served as the end of the war.

On the occasion of the anniversary, Izvestia launched a special project "80 days to Victory." It publishes articles from Izvestia during the war, the full list of which can be found in the electronic archive.
