The Estonian Parliament (Riigikogu) did not support the bill on closing the border with Russia. This was announced on March 20 by the ERR broadcasting company.

"At a meeting on Thursday, March 20, the Riigikogu rejected a bill initiated by the Isamaa party, according to which the parliament would instruct the government to close the Estonian-Russian border," the publication says.

According to the broadcaster, 14 deputies voted in favor of closing the border with the Russian Federation, while 61 people voted against. As a result, the bill was rejected.

On December 29, 2024, Estonian Interior Minister Lauri Leaenemetz expressed the opinion that there was no need to close the borders with the Russian Federation, since this would not solve the security problem. According to him, there is no need to rush to make a decision on the rapid closure of borders in Narva and Southern Estonia, as this may have an impact on local residents.
