Reducing Russia's investments in U.S. government bonds remains part of a long-term strategy that can only change if the international situation improves. Evgeny Shatov, a partner at Capital Lab, told Izvestia on March 20.

"Russia has long left the list of the largest holders of U.S. government bonds. Currently, Japan is the leader, which has increased its investments to $1.079 trillion. China is in second place with $760.8 billion, and the United Kingdom is in third place, increasing the volume to $740.2 billion," he explained.

According to him, in some months, the volume of Russian investments in US government bonds temporarily increased, but then decreased again. There is no clear trend towards an increase.

The expert did not rule out that if diplomatic relations between the United States and Russia improve, as well as sanctions are lifted, investment volumes may begin to grow. However, so far no such trend has been observed.

Speaking about forecasts, Shatov noted that US Treasury bonds remain one of the most reliable financial instruments in the world.

"They have the highest AAA reliability rating and are considered the benchmark for risk-free returns. Their quotes are used to calculate many macroeconomic indicators," he explained.

Among the features of American government bonds, the expert highlighted their liquidity and diversity. Treasuries include short-term bills (T-Bills), medium-term notes (T-Notes) and long-term bonds (T-Bonds). There are also inflation-protected bonds (TIPS) and floating rate notes (FRNs).

Despite the high reliability, the expert pointed out the disadvantages of such investments.

"Yields on Treasuries may be lower than on other instruments, especially in conditions of low interest rates. In addition, access to these securities may be limited for investors from sanctioned countries," Shatov concluded.

Denis Astafyev, founder of the SharesPro investment company, spoke on March 6 about unusual ways of investing. According to the expert, one of them is the cultivation and sale of bonsai, the advantage of which lies in its unpretentiousness and relatively low maintenance costs. Astafyev also called such hobbies as collectible dolls, comics and video games a promising area for investment.
