The fire season has opened in the forests of the Moscow region. It will end on November 15th. This year it happened earlier than usual due to the abnormally warm winter and low rainfall.

This is reported by the online publication Podmoskovye Segodnya with reference to the regional forestry committee.

The committee's forces were placed on high alert. Experts control about 2 million hectares of forest areas. Monitoring is conducted by 28 forest fire stations and 1.2 thousand forest firefighters. Special equipment is ready.

Experts have warned that dry grass piles pose a particular danger this spring, as the fire spreads over a large area during the wind, posing a threat to forests and human settlements.

Locals are urged not to make bonfires in the wrong places, not to burn grass and garbage, not to throw matches and cigarette butts.

Earlier, with reference to the Aviation Security Service, it was reported that high risks of forest fires are predicted as early as March in different parts of the country: from the Far East to the Caucasus. The Federal Forestry Agency also called for the early start of the fire season, especially in Central Russia. The warm winter and melting snow led to high risks, which turned out to be insufficient moisture in the soil, experts noted. They fear that smoldering peat bogs may flare up in such a situation.
