- Fico announced Slovakia's readiness to block sanctions against Russia for peace in Ukraine

Slovakia is considering the possibility of vetoing new sanctions against Russia if they interfere with peace talks on resolving the conflict in Ukraine, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on March 20 at a meeting of the parliamentary Committee on European Affairs.
"I recognize that if we see that an attempt to impose further sanctions undermines the peace process, we are ready to veto it, and there is nothing wrong with that," the politician said before flying to Brussels for the EU summit.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on March 14 that European states want to impose new anti-Russian sanctions, but Washington opposes this. According to him, during the meeting of the heads of diplomatic departments of the Group of Seven (G7) countries in Canada, the issue of imposing anti-Russian sanctions was raised because European countries want to adopt new restrictions. He added that the United States does not want to resort to these measures, as it hopes to involve both sides in peace talks.
On March 10, Bloomberg reported that advisers to US President Donald Trump are working on measures to ease anti-Russian sanctions. It is noted that this will affect, among other things, restrictions on oil prices.
