The St. Petersburg City Court sentenced Varvara Zherebtsova, who intentionally strangled her daughter with a pillow, to 14 years in prison. This was announced on March 20 by the joint press service of the courts of St. Petersburg.
The incident itself occurred in January last year in the village of Pargolovo. 23-year-old Zherebtsova, feeling dislike for her nine-month-old daughter, put her on the sofa and strangled her with a pillow. After that, the woman left the house for two days, leaving her young son in the apartment.
To hide the traces of the crime, Zherebtsova told the police that she had left her daughter under the supervision of her friend, and then found the girl dead in a closed apartment. She later confessed.
Zherebtsova was found guilty of committing crimes and sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment in a penal colony. She was also fined 100,000 rubles. The girl pleaded not guilty to the murder and asked to be reclassified to the charge of causing death by negligence.
The incident occurred on January 20, 2024 in the village of Pargolovo. On January 22, 2024, it became known about the detention of the 22-year-old mother of the murdered child. Later, on January 24, a woman accused of murdering her nine-month-old daughter was arrested for two months.
