State traffic inspectorate to raid bike couriers in Moscow


The Moscow State Traffic Inspectorate has announced a "Bicycle Courier" raid, which is aimed at preventing offenses among employees of delivery services on electric bicycles and personal mobility equipment. The agency announced this in its Telegram channel on March 20. The preventive event will be held from March 21 to March 23.
"Traffic police officers will remind this category of drivers of the need to be attentive on the road, respectful to pedestrians when moving along sidewalks, use protective equipment with retroreflective elements, and comply with the requirements of road signs and traffic lights," the department noted.
The last raid of the Moscow State Traffic Inspectorate was dedicated to the search for drunk drivers. As a result of the event, which took place from March 7-9, traffic police stopped 280 cases of drunk drivers driving vehicles, including 64 motorists who were intoxicated, and 201 refused to undergo a medical examination. Also, 15 drivers were detained on the grounds of a crime, the responsibility for which is provided for in Article 264.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
Earlier that day, it was reported that employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate in St. Petersburg conducted a large-scale operation "Electric Bike" to establish how drivers of personal mobility equipment (SIM) affect the level of road safety. The police raid was conducted from March 10 to March 14. During this period, nine accidents involving electric bicycles were recorded in the city, in which three people were injured in various degrees of severity.
On February 24, it was reported that, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Moscow, since the beginning of 2025, the metropolitan police have compiled about 4 thousand materials about violations of traffic rules on sidewalks in relation to bicycle couriers.
