The Russian forward of the Washington Capitals hockey club met with US President Donald Trump at his villa. Anastasia Ovechkina (Shubskaya), the athlete's wife, told about this on March 20.

"I know Trump personally. Sasha and his team went to the White House after winning the Stanley Cup, and one day he invited us to his villa in Florida for Christmas," she told Sport-Express.

According to Anastasia, Trump is a hockey fan and has repeatedly told Ovechkin that he is following his career and appreciates him as an athlete. She stressed that there are good relations between the US president and the player.

Describing Alexander's meeting with Trump, the hockey player's wife noted that the president's friends and acquaintances were present at the celebration, but the table of the American leader and his wife Melania was separated from the rest of the guests.

The son of the head of the White House approached the couple and invited them to approach their father, Anastasia recalls. It is not known what exactly the men talked about, but Ovechkin's wife expressed gratitude to Melania for the invitation.

On January 19, Trump called Ovechkin a great player during his speech before the inauguration, which took place at the Washington Capitals hockey club's home stadium, Capital One Arena. He also thanked the owners of the arena and noted that the Russian hockey player's team is in a great position.
