Employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate in St. Petersburg conducted a large-scale operation "Electric Bicycle" to establish how drivers of personal mobility equipment (SIM) affect road safety, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region reported on March 20.
The police raid was conducted from March 10 to March 14. During this period, nine accidents involving electric bicycles were recorded in the city, in which three people were injured in various degrees of severity.
"According to the results of the event, out of 1.5 thousand verified electric cyclists, almost 1 thousand were brought to administrative responsibility for violating traffic rules.. At the same time, the vast majority of them turned out to be couriers of delivery services," the agency's website says.
It is noted that a criminal case had to be opened against one of the delivery couriers stopped in the Moskovsky district after he tried to bribe a traffic police inspector.
On February 24, it was reported that according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Moscow, since the beginning of 2025, the metropolitan police have compiled about 4 thousand materials about violations of traffic rules on sidewalks in relation to bicycle couriers. The fine for riding a moped on the sidewalk is 2 thousand rubles (part 2 of Article 12.15 of the Administrative Code), a moped rider must have an "M" license, he obeys the same rules as an ordinary motorist (for example, he must undergo a medical examination).
