The police in the Sakhalin Region are conducting an investigation into fraud involving elderly spouses. They lost more than 3 million rubles.
According to SakhalinMedia news agency, scammers informed a 70-year-old woman and her husband that their personal accounts on the Gosuslugi portal had allegedly been hacked. Under the pretext of saving their savings, the scammers convinced the victims to withdraw all the money and transfer it to "safe" accounts.
Another victim of fraud almost became a 47-year-old resident of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The criminals contacted her on behalf of the supervisor, then the "security supervisor" called her. The scammers convinced the woman that someone was allegedly trying to transfer about 500,000 rubles from her account to the account of a "terrorist." They offered the victim to transfer the money to a "secure" account, but the woman refused.
In the Irkutsk region, a 75-year-old pensioner lost about 2 million rubles due to fraud. The scammers convinced the victim that her personal account on the Gosuslugi portal had been hacked. The woman agreed to sell the apartment and transfer the money to a "secure" account.
