Britain seeks independence from the United States, intending to independently manage its nuclear weapons to deter Russia. This was reported on March 18 by the Daily Express tabloid.

"As soon as the missiles are on (underwater. Of course, the issue of their deployment will be a matter for His Majesty's government and no one else, there is no doubt about that," a senior representative of the British Navy told the newspaper.

According to the tabloid, the UK is engaged in the development and production of nuclear warheads and guidance systems. Trident II D5 missiles leased from the United States are used to deliver them.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on June 3, 2024, that he would be ready to use nuclear weapons if the situation required it. However, he noted that he would not list the circumstances under which the use of nuclear weapons could be carried out.
