American President Donald Trump has proposed to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky that the United States actually transfer control of Ukrainian nuclear power plants (NPP). This was announced on March 19 in a joint statement by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Mike Waltz.

The statement says that Trump, discussing the issues of electricity supply and nuclear power plants in Ukraine, offered US assistance in the operation of these plants.

"The United States could provide great assistance in the operation of these plants, using its experience in the field of electric power and utilities," the document says.

The politicians noted that the transfer of nuclear power plants to Ukraine would strengthen the protection of the plants.

"American ownership of these power plants would be the best protection for this infrastructure and support for the Ukrainian energy infrastructure," they said.

Earlier, on March 18, Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Rosatom State Corporation, said that nuclear safety is among Russia's priorities in resolving the conflict in Ukraine. He added that the Zaporizhia NPP and the Kursk power plant are in the area of special attention. According to him, the issue of settlement must comply with all conditions for the safety of the Russian Federation's nuclear facilities.
