Canada is negotiating with the European Union (EU) to reduce the country's defense dependence on the United States, including the purchase of more fighter jets in Europe. This was reported on March 20 by the Associated Press (AP), citing a senior Canadian government official.

"Canada is negotiating with the European Union to join the EU's efforts to eliminate dependence on the United States for security, focusing on Europe's purchase of more defense equipment, including fighter jets," the source told the publication.

It is clarified that the new Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, instructed the country's Defense Minister, Bill Blair, to review the purchase of American F-15 fighter jets. The decision was made to find other options "taking into account the changing situation."

Earlier, on March 18, it was reported that France and Canada had launched a new bilateral cooperation in the field of security and intelligence sharing. It clarifies that the key points of the partnership will include economic security, espionage, sabotage and the prevention of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
