Cuban state media have welcomed the decision by the administration of US President Donald Trump to shut down White House-funded media outlets that have long promoted Washington's policy in Cuba. This was reported by Reuters on March 19.

It clarifies that among the news services affected worldwide, the Cuban Broadcasting Authority, Radio Marti and the online platform Noticias Marti were closed, whose mission, according to their website, was to provide "uncensored news and information to the Cuban people."

The Cuban state news agency Cubadebate welcomed Trump's decision, calling the programs "the most expensive, unsuccessful and corrupt communications project in the history of the United States."

"The most rotten of these programs are directed against Cuba, a country against which billions of dollars have been spent, but it has failed to overthrow the (Cuban) revolution," commented Cubadebate editor—in-chief Randy Alonso.

The day before, the chairman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, said that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) purposefully financed the overthrow of an undesirable government and color revolutions around the world.

She also noted that Russia has repeatedly warned on major international platforms about the malicious activities of USAID and the support of terrorist organizations.

On February 3, American billionaire Elon Musk announced the launch of the USAID liquidation process. The businessman noted that the agency is not subject to restoration and it needs to be closed.
