- A peak in the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza has been reported in Russia

In Russia, for the third week in a row, the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza has remained at a high level: more than 1.1 million cases of infection have been registered, Rospotrebnadzor reported.
According to the Smorodintsev Influenza Research Institute, for the first time in nine weeks, the incidence rate began to decrease.
Despite this, the epidemic incidence of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections has been exceeded by 20% or more in at least ten Russian cities. Among them are Bryansk, Vologda, Kirov, Nizhny Novgorod, Orel, Simferopol, Syktyvkar, Tomsk, Ulyanovsk and Chelyabinsk.
But the Influenza Research Institute analyzes the situation in only 61 cities. Izvestia checked the reports of Rospotrebnadzor in the regions and made sure that the incidence was higher than normal in at least three more Russian regions — in Samara, Kaluga regions and Karachay-Cherkessia.
The duration of the flu epidemic ranges from six to eight weeks, Maxim Korshunov, an allergist and immunologist at the Alexandrovsky Medical Center, reminded Izvestia.
The expert did not rule out that now "we are on the threshold of reducing the incidence." But the peak values, according to him, still remain.
Andrey Pozdnyakov, an infectious disease specialist at Invitro, believes that the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza will begin to decrease significantly no earlier than May. And Marina Berezhnaya, head of the emergency and emergency department at the European Medical Center, believes that it will decline from the end of April.
