Trade between Russia and the United States could double in 2025

The trade turnover between America and Russia is capable of increasing 1.5-2 times by the end of 2025, to $6-8 billion. This is the opinion of the experts interviewed by Izvestia. Positive developments may occur after the telephone conversation between the presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, which took place on March 18. They discussed economic cooperation, among other things.
Currently, the volume of mutual trade between Russia and the United States is small. Last year, it amounted to $3.5 billion, the lowest since 1992. For comparison, the trade turnover between Russia and Europe was 40 times higher last year — $141.5 billion, and with China it amounted to $245 billion.
Trade turnover will grow mainly due to exports from Russia, and not due to the import of goods from the United States to our country, says Natalia Milchakova, a leading analyst at Freedom Finance Global. First of all, America will start buying mineral fertilizers and metals, she noted.
In addition, the United States will open up access to technology for Russia, as well as provide opportunities to buy transport equipment (aircraft, components), machine-building products and electronics, suggests Olga Belenkaya, head of the macroeconomic analysis department at Finam, Olga Belenkaya.
However, it is unlikely that trade will increase rapidly, because the United States has now embarked on protectionism. Trump is determined to reduce the import of goods from other countries to America, recalled Dmitry Kuznetsov, a researcher at the Center for International Trade Studies at the Presidential Academy.
