The restoration of the historic Udarnik cinema building in Moscow is scheduled to be completed in 2027. This was announced on Wednesday, March 19, by the Mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, during an inspection of the works at the facility.

The cinema is located on Baltschug Island. The building is an architectural monument.

"The main thing is that this is the facility where the first sound cinema in Russia was. There were premieres of films such as "Chapaev", "Quiet Don", "Funny Guys" and so on. There have been a lot of film festivals since Soviet times," the Moscow City News Agency quoted the official as saying.

Before the restoration, the cinema was in disrepair. Work began in the fourth quarter of 2023 and is being carried out at the expense of private investments.

Specialists will have to open the openings on the facade of the cinema, preserve and recreate the domed ceilings on the ground floor, clean the surfaces of the facades from numerous layers of paint, remove repair plaster inserts, replace windows and doors, and strengthen the preserved structures, Moscow 24 notes. In addition, it is planned to restore the terrazite plaster of the main facades and metal balcony railings, the website writes. kp.ru . After the completion of the work, the cinema will have a large cinema hall with a transformable stage, several small cinemas and a bookstore, cafe, NSN reports.

Sobyanin recalled that the city is implementing a large program for the construction, reconstruction and creation of a number of cultural facilities — houses and palaces of culture, theaters, dozens of cinemas.
