The deployment of foreign military forces on the territory of Ukraine, including peacekeepers, will be considered as a direct involvement of these countries in the conflict. This was announced on March 19 by Yulia Zhdanova, acting head of the Russian delegation to the Vienna talks on military security and arms control.

According to her, Russia does not accept the deployment of units of the armed forces of other states in Ukraine, whether foreign contingents, military bases or peacekeeping operations, which, according to Zhdanova, are proposed by those who have completely excluded the words "peacemaking" and "peace" from political practice.

"This will mean involving these countries in a direct armed conflict with the Russian Federation, to which we will respond with all available means," she said, speaking at a plenary session of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) forum.

The Times newspaper reported on March 16 that Ukraine's allies want to send over 10,000 peacekeepers to the country. Unnamed senior sources in the British government said that the country's Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, had enlisted the support of a significantly larger number of states willing to provide ground troops.

On March 15, Starmer announced that Western military personnel would gather in the UK on March 20 to develop practical plans to support the future security of Ukraine by Western soldiers. At the same time, French President Emmanuel Macron said that European states could send their military contingent to Ukraine and deploy it, in particular, in Kiev, Lviv and Odessa.
