Washington Capitals Owner calls Ovechkin a Hockey Legend

Ted Leonsis, the owner of the Washington Capitals hockey club, noted the exceptional skill of Russian striker Alexander Ovechkin, calling him a hockey legend. He expressed the corresponding opinion on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
"Alexander Ovechkin is not only the captain of Washington, he is the cornerstone of the D.C. sports community and a true hockey legend," Leonsis wrote.
He added that Ovechkin is approaching the record of Canadian hockey player Wayne Gretzky in terms of the number of goals scored, and the achievements of the Russian athlete and his dedication to one team are becoming defining aspects of his legacy.
"In addition to his success on the ice, Alexander's commitment to various social ideas had an immeasurable impact on fans, spawned a new generation of hockey players and cemented his status as a role model," said the Washington owner.
Earlier, on March 15, Alexander Ovechkin scored the 887th career goal against the San Jose Sharks. Then it was clarified that the forward had reduced the gap from Gretzky's record to seven goals.
The hockey player told Izvestia and Sport-Express on March 11 that he was not going to renew his contract with the American club and was considering returning to Dynamo Moscow. At the same time, Ovechkin noted that it is difficult to make plans for such a long time.
