The political scientist assessed the results of the talks between Putin and Trump

The talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump have become an important stage in the development of relations between Moscow and Washington. During such events, human history changes. This opinion was shared with Izvestia on March 19 by political scientist Alexander Asafov.
"We see that agreements have been reached so far on a number of important, but not any huge achievements, but this is how it should be. This process should proceed in such steps, including those affecting not only the issues of the Ukrainian crisis, but also the sphere of humanitarian and sports cooperation, and the agenda of other regions, for example, the Middle East," the expert noted.
He stressed that the vector of implementation of the results of these negotiations is important, but it is already noticeable that despite the rather aggressive declarations earlier, the situation is changing.
"[Political] positions are formed, including on the ground, including on the battlefield. This affects both the mobility of the American position and the lack of a European position, which no one listens to," the source concluded.
On the evening of March 18, Putin and Trump had a telephone conversation. During the talks, the sides exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine and discussed a wide range of areas in which the United States and Russia could cooperate.
The next day, responding to a journalist's request to confirm Witkoff's information about the continuation of negotiations between Russia and the United States in Saudi Arabia, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the dates of the next bilateral contacts would be agreed in the coming days.
