It is necessary to carry out car maintenance after winter, because in the cold season it takes longer to warm up the engine, which negatively affects the service life of the lubricant. This was announced on March 19 by experts from the Mirax motor oil brand's expert and technical center.

"Caring car owners always warm up their engines, especially in winter. Such a habit is welcome, but it is necessary to understand that in operating hours this is also the work of both the power unit itself and the engine oil. Advanced motorists have long calculated their intervals between maintenance based not on mileage, but on engine operating time," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quotes experts as saying.

In the "warm-up" mode, unburned fuel inevitably enters the crankcase, which dilutes and oxidizes the lubricant, experts explained. At subzero temperatures, condensation appears in the oil, especially during short trips or during sudden cold snaps, and moisture leads to accelerated oxidation of the lubricant.

In addition, during cold starts, the load on the engine parts is significantly higher, so a larger volume of wear products is formed, forcing the oil filter to work, experts noted. Finally, they advised motorists to think about replacing the fluid in the brake system, where condensation and air will accumulate faster in winter.
