The Supreme Court of Tatarstan has sentenced a 56-year-old Kazan taxi driver to 17 years, finding him guilty of theft, robbery, and intentional infliction of serious bodily harm, resulting in the death of a person by negligence. This was announced on March 19 by the investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the republic.
It was established that in 2023, an attacker, working as a taxi driver, treated passengers with drinks laced with a potent psychotropic substance. When the victims lost their ability to move, the driver stole valuables from them.
"So, in January, a taxi driver got a 16-year-old drunk, robbed him and left him unconscious on the road in subzero temperatures. However, the victim was provided with timely medical assistance," the agency's website says.
The victims of the man were three people, including a minor. One of them died as a result of poisoning. The attacker was put on the federal wanted list. In order to escape, he forged his passport and left for the Republic of Mari El, he was detained in August 2023.
The court found the man guilty under Part 4 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code ("Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm resulting in the death of the victim"), Article 327 of the Criminal Code ("Passport forgery"), Article 158 of the Criminal Code ("Theft"), Article 162 of the Criminal Code ("Robbery"). He will have to serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony.
In August 2024, a taxi driver made an obscene offer to a passenger as payment for a ride and recorded his actions on a video that spread online. The girl refused to comply with the driver's demands. The Kuntsevsky court of Moscow arrested a taxi driver for harassment. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 30 and Part 1 of Article 132 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Attempted sexual violence"). The man was also found guilty under Part 1 of Article 19.3 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation ("Disobeying a lawful order of a police officer"). He was placed under administrative arrest for 10 days.
